| Essentially conceived as monumental performance architecture, this project is located on each side of Interstate 10, 70 miles west of Houston. The rest areas create a metaphorical bridge that visually connects a divided super highway, creating the sense of one single composition. The strategic placement and alignment of the buildings seems to physically close the gap and help the buildings to 'bridge' the highway.
The design includes a passenger drop-off area that features a vaulted trompe l'oeil tile mural on the ceiling, adding stage set amusement and color to the delight of the travelers. |
